Fernandez-Versini after they revealed they’re a couple
this week – slamming haters for judging them for their age

revealed she’d been happier than ever with her partner
Mark, who is 22 years her junior, and people shouldn’t
judge Cheryl and Liam.

She tolds fans: “My problem is the fact that everyone
seems to have a problem.”
Carol aired her views
Here, speaking in the New Day, Carol gives her thoughts
on the Cheryl and Liam romance:
Well hold the front page, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has
been seeing Liam Payne, it says here for the past three
months. Of course anything either one of them does
would end up on the front page, but the big story is the
fact that she is a mighty 10 years older than him. Cue
horror and disgust on the forums from judgmental idiots
who’ve probably never even had a relationship, let alone
one with an age gap.
So what’s the problem? Well, my problem is the fact that
everyone seems to have a problem. And that people like
my fiancé Mark and me are now being labelled “gappers”.
Why, just because two people were born in different
decades, shouldn’t they be together? If you happen to
have met “the one” and they’re the same age as you then
great. But how does that qualify them to judge others
who haven’t?

The pair confirmed the romance this week
Mark might be 22 years younger than me, but mentally
we genuinely meet in the middle somewhere. Of course I
have insecurities about the way I look compared to him,
but he doesn’t, so I ignore them. Just like I ignored
everyone who said it wouldn’t last, that Mark was only
with me for the status, or the money. Nearly eight years
down the line we’ve proved them wrong, but why should
we have had to?
My whole life I’ve only ever been out with two men who
were older than me. It didn’t work for me simply because
men do age more easily than women. Old men are old
men, but old women are much more resistant to the pipe
and slippers mentality.
That doesn’t make me a “cougar” either (another very
annoying term), it’s just the way it is.
